      Challenge A specialty chemical manufacturer established a goal to become the market leader of amphoteric surfactants. Because growth of the market was forecasted to exceed the capacity of its manufacturing system, the system needed to be revised.


      Approach IPM led efforts that maximized the use of existing assets, minimized impacts to existing production, and offered the shortest path to start-up of a new process.

      Challenge A specialty chemical manufacturer had four polymer reactor systems, which when operated concurrently, could not achieve optimized rates without overloading a shared distillate recovery system.


      Approach IPM used the services of an external process equipment design company and began optimizing the remodel, which revealed a significant waste stream. The result was a modification plan that increased the throughput rate of the distillation system.


      Results The modified distillate recovery system operated at 115% of the optimized reactor production rate and produced a net profit of 1.9M.
